The Mittelland Canal (MLK) branches off from the Dortmund-Ems Canal west of Osnabrück near Bergeshövede and flows into the Elbe-Havel Canal in Hohenwarthe near Magdeburg after a length of around 325 km. As a central part of the only west-east waterway in northern Germany, it connects the river basins of the Rhine, Ems, Weser and Elbe and also provides a connection to Berlin and the Eastern European waterways.

We chose the route on the left side towards Minden because there was less wind on that side. The headwind was quite strong.
