The (mostly reddish-brown) Highlanders are suitable for use as large grazers all year round, thanks in part to their thick coat.
They require little care and are rarely aggressive, but cautious behavior is recommended in case of an unexpected encounter. If sufficient distance is maintained, the animals will generally not be disturbed by human presence.
At the access gates to the pasture, it is explicitly requested to maintain sufficient distance, especially in spring – when the cows are pregnant.
Highlanders also feed on plants that many other cattle breeds ignore.
