    On the banks of the Fergus River and down a track alongside the railway, you will find Clare Abbey, a ruined Augustinian Monastery. The road is a dead end but it is worth making a detour. It is thought to have been founded before 1189 as it is mentioned in a 12th century charter by Donal ‘the Great’ O’Brien.
