"Since October 2017, Wittern Central Station has had its own memorial locomotive in its station hall. The locomotive is an industrial steam locomotive built by Henschel in 1949 for the former Hasper Hütte in neighboring Hagen/Westphalia.

The locomotive was installed in Gevelsberg-Vogelsang in 1973 as a playground locomotive and ended up at the Sauerland Kleinbahn in Herscheid in 1984. Before it was installed in Witten, the locomotive was extensively optically refurbished by the Witten Railway Friends from 2012 to 2017.

A barrier now protects the locomotive from vandalism." lok-report.de/news/deutschland/museum/item/20888-denkmallok-im-wittener-hauptbahnhof.html

"The old rusty locomotive hung in the air as if it were a toy. A crane lifted it with apparent ease from the truck onto the grounds of the Deutsche Edelstahlwerke career workshop. At a proud 16 tons, "Friedrich", as the Witten railway enthusiasts had christened the locomotive, weighed significantly more than a model train, which would probably have been in better condition. 63 years had left their mark on the steam locomotive. Until In 1972 it was used at the Klöckner-Hütte in Hagen-Haspe. Then it served as an adventure object for children on a playground in Gevelsberg. Dents, moss, scratches and peeling layers of paint bore witness to this past. But Friedrich would soon spend the rest of his life in the Witten main station, which had also been restored..."
