The Saint-Vaast abbey church, completed in 1833, became a cathedral replacing the N.D.-de-la-Cité. A monumental staircase leads to the classical facade. The interior is light and has an antique stateliness. Nave, transept and choir are separated by columns with Corinthian capitals. The statues of saints (19th century) come from the Pantheon of Paris. In the right transept there are frescoes (including Saint Vedastus taming a bear). On either side of the altar are a "Birth of Christ" and "Resurrection" (Desvallières).
