The path to the source of the Isar is an experience in itself! In the truest sense of the word, the journey is the destination here. It is not just the "source of the Isar" that is worth admiring, but the entire mountain landscape along the valley: the Hinterautal behind the source of the Isar with the Kastenalm and the alpine pasture around the Kastenalm are also worth a visit. Officially, it is not a single source that is the source, but several sources together. At the designated rest area, the path to the sources is called the Quellensteig. It winds its way between mountain pines through a wild and romantic area, partly like a moor, and partly alpine through rocks to a rest area with a bench and table under a large maple tree. Behind the rest area you reach the places known as Source 1 and Source 2. In short: the source of the Isar is a much discussed topic both in history and today.

Simple forest path, not technically demanding.
