The town-like village of Rapšach (Rottenschachen) was founded in the 12th century; the first written mention comes from 1338. Initially it belonged to the Litschau rule, from the 15th century, when there were 15 farms, in 1868 it belonged to the Heidenreichstein rule. After the founding of the Schrems district in Lower Austria, the place was integrated into it. Since 1920, Rapšach has belonged to the Czech Třeboň district.
