Parish church of St. Anian, Vättis

Today's church in Vättis was built in 1695, and the first parish church was mentioned as early as 1274. It is dedicated to Saint Anian, Bishop of Orléans (390-453) feast on November 17th.

There is evidence of a parish church for Vättis as early as 1274. Today's church of St. Anian was begun in 1695 under the 'building-loving' abbot Boniface I of Pfäfers. In the Calfeisental, the St. Martin chapel and thus the existence of Walser people was mentioned in a document in 1346. The German-speaking Walsers are emigrants from the Upper Valais who settled in uninhabited, often very barren areas of the Alpine region. The Walser people in the Calfeisental lived in individual farms all year round, but as a result of climatic deterioration they gave them up in the 16th century and only used them as alpine farms in summer. In 1838 the Pfäfers monastery was dissolved and the independent parish of Vättis was subsequently founded.

On September 29, 1697, the church was inaugurated by Bishop Udalricus von Federspiel, Chur. The main altar is consecrated in honor of the patron saints Anian, Bishop of Orléans, and Sebastian.
