In the 18th century, Spa and its medicinal waters were a magnet for the beau monde from all over Europe. Emperors, kings, nobles, writers, actors and adventurers flocked here. At that time, the Bourbon family (*French noble family) often settled in this hotel, which today bears their name.

During Spa's heyday, the Bourbon family's hotel was built here in 1774. Heyday because at that time nobles such as emperors and kings as well as educated people came here to take in the flair of the city.
In 1807 many buildings nearby were destroyed by fire, only the Hôtel du Bourbon was spared.
