Blesi itself is divided into two basins. The south basin is fed with hot water from underground directly via a clearly visible cave. An 1897 report reported frequent, irregular eruptions of Blesi, while later observers found it to be quiet. After the earthquake of June 17 and 21, 2000, Blesi erupted up to 1 m high, but activity decreased rapidly thereafter. In contrast, the northern basin is separated from the southern one by a rock barrier and is only fed with overflowing water from it. As it passes through the barrier, the water cools and microscopic silica particles precipitate, creating a sky blue color.
