It was the "grain" square, or place used as a grain market, and very recently it has returned to being the city market square.
Overlooking the square on one side is the Antivari Kechler building, with a neoclassical façade by Giuseppe Jappelli (1833), flanked by the Caimo Delfino house, which today houses a hotel; on the opposite side stands out the fifteenth-century façade of the Venetian House, which until 1929 stood in via Cavour, in the point where Palazzo D'Aronco, the municipal headquarters, is now located.

It was formerly the “dei grani” square, a place that was used as a grain market. Only recently did it become Udine's city market again.On one side of the square is the Palazzo Antivari Kechler, with a neoclassical facade by Giuseppe Jappelli (1833), flanked by the Casa Caimo Delfino, which now houses a hotel; on the opposite side stands out the façade of the fifteenth-century Venetian house that stood until 1929 in Via Cavour, in the place now occupied by the municipal seat of the Palazzo D'Aronco.
