A mass grave on the heath?

This Memorial, placed in the context of the Liberation "THEY ARE THERE", the gruesome discovery of the 'Mass Gag on the heath' is depicted in words and images.

Historical indication:

On October 3, 1944, Allied troops take Brasschaat. After the liberation, a gruesome discovery is made at the military airfield of Maria-ter-Heide: 85 anonymous graves lie on the edge. During the occupation, the Germans set up a temporary prison camp along the airfield. Captured Belgian soldiers await their deportation to Germany. Later, the occupiers imprisoned people who defied German authority. In 1943 and 1944, 85 of them were shot, mainly members of the resistance.

After identification, all victims are given a new resting place at the cemetery of Maria-ter-Heide / 61 of them eventually move back to their own municipality. At the ecopark - Gunfiremuseum there is a memorial stone where this tragedy is remembered.
