Waterworks at the Hochablass - a technical sensation invites you.
The drinking water supply in Augsburg as we know it today begins with the water works at the Hochablass. Here we go! In 1879, the citizens of Augsburg were able to enjoy hygienically clean drinking water for the first time. Legendary! The technology installed by Maschinenfabrik Augsburg is a technical masterpiece straight out of a textbook - even today it is still really strong. Steep! The conveyor system with its innovative pressure tanks does not need a water tower as a pressure booster (which was indispensable until then). Layer in the shaft! After almost 100 years of operation, the large piston pumps are shut down in 1973. That's it! However, the electric centrifugal pumps in the factory basement continue to send drinking water to the city. Hammer! Only in 2007 does the drinking water technology move into the new transfer station opposite. Pressure! The factory has always been energy efficient. Because its powerful pumps, which pushed the drinking water into the pipes, were driven by turbines that drew their water energy from the Neubach. Britzl! Hydroelectric power has been used to generate green electricity since 1993: this brings in 2.3 million kilowatt hours of emission-free electricity per year. At its best! Since the mid-1980s, the Stadtwerke have been setting up step by step. Technology museum of the very finest goodness. swag! You are welcome to visit this industrial monument and its exciting exhibitions during the open days.
