The Great Moor near Dätgen is a 400-hectare raised bog. After almost a century of industrial peat cutting (from 1922 to 2007), small remains of raised bogs are only preserved in the peripheral areas, most of which are in advanced stages of degeneration with moor grass and birch growth. The area has been reconnected and renatured since 2015.
