Located at the top of the famous Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti in piazza di Spagna, the church of Santissima Trinità dei Monti is one of five French-speaking Catholic churches in Rome.

The oldest part of the Gothic style, covered by pointed cross vaults, was built with stones from the Narbonne region between 1502 and 1519. Towards the middle of the 16th century, a new core of the building was added to the Gothic nave, covered by a barrel vault, closed by a façade adorned with two symmetrical bell towers, the work of Giacomo della Porta and Carlo Maderno.

Around 1774, for a project by Giuseppe Pannini, the vault of the church was modified with 18th century shapes and the original Gothic structures were covered by the new interventions.

Santissima Trinita dei Monti is a Catholic church in Rome, known for its location above the Spanish Steps leading to the famous Piazza di Spagna. The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and was built between 1502 and 1585 in a late Renaissance style. The church has a concave facade with three portals, decorated with marble reliefs and lashes. The central dome has a spiral lantern and a flaming crown. The interior is elliptical in shape, with seven interconnected chapels and a dome with a fresco of the Transfiguration of John of Matha.
The church and its surroundings (including the Villa Medici) are owned by the French state. The church is also served in French and is one of five French-speaking Catholic churches in Rome.

The church is located above the Piazza di Spagna at the top of the famous "Spanish Steps".

The order to build the church was given by King Louis XI, who was in Italy at the time. of France in 1482. In 1495 his indirect successor Louis XII. France began construction. The church was completed in 1587 as part of a Paulaner monastery that had existed since 1494; the consecration was carried out by Pope Sixtus V. The staircase was built between 1723 and 1725 by Francesco de Sanctis.
