The dolphin fountain is in the inner courtyard of the castle, on the east wing in front of the keep. It dates from the time when Ettlingen was occupied by Baden-Durlach in 1612. The arcades in the west wing were walled up in order to be able to set up the dolphin fountain on the courtyard wall there.

The dolphin fountain is in the inner courtyard of the castle, on the east wing in front of the keep. It dates from the time of Baden-Durlach's occupation of Ettlingen in 1612. The arcades in the west wing were bricked up so that the dolphin fountain could be set up on the courtyard wall there. Although it was only restored in the 1930s, it had to leave its place as part of the castle renovation. In 1964 it was carefully demolished and rebuilt at its current location. The famous builder Johannes Schoch is considered to be the creator of the fountain. It is richly decorated and the semi-octagonal trough has numerous ornaments. The curved gable building sits above the basin. Its decorations point to the beginning of the Baroque period.

The Dolphin Fountain stands in the palace's inner courtyard, in the east wing in front of the keep. It dates back to the time of the Baden-Durlach occupation of Ettlingen in 1612. The arcades in the west wing were walled up to allow the Dolphin Fountain to be placed on the courtyard wall there. Although restored in the 1930s, it had to be removed as part of the palace's renovation. In 1964, it was carefully dismantled and rebuilt in its current location. The famous architect Johannes Schoch is considered the fountain's creator. It is richly decorated, and the semi-octagonal trough is adorned with numerous ornaments. The curved gable structure sits above the basin. Its decorations point to the beginnings of the Baroque period. The pillars of the central section, however, with their austere forms, reflect the stylistic sensibilities of the Renaissance. In the central niche is a golden dolphin. This is actually a catfish, spewing water from its mouth into the basin. The top is crowned by the Baden-Palatinate double coat of arms. The coat of arms actually has nothing to do with the fountain. It originates from a vault keystone. The fountain's original gray-white paint was removed in 1979, revealing the Renaissance red of the sandstone fountain. The original fish is on display in the Albgau Museum.
