Baselgia, Reformed Church of S. Giachem Bever

Building history: The church of San Giachem was first mentioned in a document in 1334 as "ecclesia Sti. Jacobi", another mention can be found in 1370. - About this predecessor church: excavations, plaster removal 1966/67: the entrance was in the west wall decorated with frescoes, 2007 : the old church floor with the foundation walls and fresco fragments in the rubble is uncovered, presumably there was a barrel vault over the choir in the east, a dendrochronological study indicates a construction period in the first quarter of the 14th century. - In 1501 the church was rebuilt and consecrated. Between 1665 and 1667 a large hall church without a chancel was built by master builders Giovanni Caserin and Francesco Pancera while retaining the west wall. The church is now aligned to the west, the entrance is relocated to the east. 1670-1673 Pancera and Giacomo Cornet build a new church tower on the north side of the facade based on the widespread Baroque model. In 1852/53 the gallery with organ (Zimmermann, Munich) and pulpit was installed. Renovations follow in 1886 (three new bells, Theus, Felsberg), 1899 (shingle roof replaced by copper roof), 1952 (Eternit roof), 1966-69 (tower, west wall, organ: new case, Metzler, Dietikon), 1997 (organ, Felsberg) , 2004-2010 (extensive exterior and interior renovation, shingle roof).Exterior: The pleasing tower with octagonal upper floor and lantern bulb has been multicolored renovated to the original condition. In winter, a flat roof in front of the portal protects against snow that slides off the hipped roof, which is true to the original. In the wall next to the east facade, a door leads to the cemetery and the west wall. A roof protects the medieval testimonies uncovered in 1966-69: the bricked-up tufa portal of the old church and the remains of three Gothic wall paintings from around 1350/60: St. George in the presence of a charming princess, St. Michael as a soul weigher and the preparatory drawing of a St.
