    The 'Command of the 12th Austro-Hungarian Infantry Brigade' from the First World War, of which the base remains, is located along Kaiser Karl Straße, a long and wide natural-bottomed driveway built by the imperial army to easily reach the front by motorized vehicles of Mount Ortigara.

    The whole area was actually a nerve center, as it was the immediate rear of the Ortigara-Monte Zebio-Interrotto front line: the Austro-Hungarian army made it a large and complex logistic hub for the collection of men and vehicles. The area is in fact dotted with the ruins of military buildings, all sheltered from enemy fire: barrack foundations, cave shelters, perimeter and road reinforcement walls.
