The name of the open space in the fallow deer enclosure, lined with old oak trees, derives from a duel between the district administrator and the domain leaseholder from Springe, which took place here on January 16, 1902 (!). For both duelists, the exchange of bullets was suboptimal: while the district administrator gave his life, the domain leaseholder was sentenced to six years in prison.
