From the Roman road, an important trade route developed, leading from Basel to Frankfurt over 377 km.
You can read about this and many other interesting facts on the information panel here. There's also a bench.
These days, the old road is only used by agricultural traffic and is therefore a lovely cycling route. It's also very nice for hiking.
