The “Bos Elfbergen” forest is the largest forest in Gaasterland. It is one of the forests that were planted in the 19th century by Baron Van Swinderen. This forest is home to coniferous and deciduous tree species of all ages. The adjacent “Wyldemerk” is a nature reserve with an idyllic lake. The special nature of “Wyldemerk” has ensured that this piece of land has been declared a dragonfly reserve.
In summer, around 35 species of dragonflies can be found here.

Part of the “Elfbergen” forest has been designated a dog forest. Dogs are allowed to run around here without a leash (as long as they are supervised)
