Semi-pedestrian, Rue Colbert is considered one of the oldest streets in the city. Since Antiquity, it has served the main axis of circulation parallel to the Loire. Its origins are a Gallo-Roman route.

First known as Grande Rue, it became the main artery of the city in the Middle Ages, and until the 18th century. Above its cobblestones, opulent residences bear witness to the past. There are many half-timbered houses (otherwise known as half-timbered houses), which give this street its charm.
