It is possible to place so-called friendship bonds on this bridge. It received this popular name thanks to the initiative of two students from the University of Aveiro, who in 2004 began hanging ribbons on the railing of the wooden bridge, a symbol of love or friendship that invites anyone passing by to repeat the gesture.

It was called the Padlock Bridge because in the past padlocks were hung instead of straps, a practice that was discontinued (very good!) so as not to damage the bridge.
