There are 148 lime trees in Dorpstraat and give this street a unique view. The trees that are there now were planted around 1900 and are pruned annually. The trees divide the street, which is in itself very wide, into three parts: the roadway and two sub-streets for quieter traffic. Please know that you are walking on a former old dike here. At a glance you will notice that you are on a higher level here. Notice that the house facades on the street are higher than the backyards. In five places, narrow alleys lead to the lower gardens at the bottom of the dike.
For a long time, Dorpstraat was the most important street in the village. The town hall was located here as well as the bank, the inn, the bakery, the grocer and other shops. The buildings now house ordinary citizens, but the inscriptions on the facades reveal their original function. It's up to you to discover these special facades. Enjoy your treasure hunt.
Know that the Dorpsstraat is protected as a village view.
