Five years after his death, one of the most important German athletes was honored with this monument. The bronze sculpture, which is a good two meters high with a base, was designed by the sculptor Carsten Eggers. Schmeling was a great patron and sponsor for Hollenstedt. In the 55 years that Max Schmeling lived modestly and quietly there, he supported numerous projects in the joint community. Among other things, he gave 300,000 euros for a new sports hall and had a slide built in the outdoor pool at his own expense.
