The bridge near the wall can be used to cross the Este (May 2021). The facility was restored as a showpiece from the end of the 1960s, as there wasn't much left of the original thanks to erosion. According to recent research, the great Karl is out of the question as a founder. They were probably Stade Counts. Boards on the site explain this very nicely.

Unfortunately, the bridge cannot be crossed for the third year.

The ring wall "Alte Burg" is a gem on the Este near Hollenstedt. It is an earth wall with a ditch from the late 9th century, which can still be seen today. This complex, also called a castle, was fortified with palisades and probably served for defensive purposes. It was probably built by Charlemagne and later (after a fire) taken over by the Counts of Stade.
The ring wall with the medieval garden is a beautiful and quiet place. A bench invites you to linger and there is also a self-built barbecue area. The garden, which was created by students and the Estetal association, among others, includes interesting herbs and plants.
