The Swiss customs office is a little further away from the actual top of the pass. The Umbrail Pass is the highest Swiss road pass. The winding pass road, which is now almost continuously paved, forms the connection between Santa Maria in Graubünden (N) and the south-west ramp of the Stelvio Pass in South Tyrol (S). The border crossing is located directly at the turnoff from the pass ramp of the Stelvio Pass.
