In the Wateringhuis of Natuurpunt in Lommel-Kolonie you can find exhibitions about the origin and management of the so-called flow meadows in the Watering and the fauna and flora that came along with the calcareous water used for this. Those floodplains and the irrigation of the landscape to make the poor soil richer for agriculture through a large-scale irrigation project date from the 19th century and were set up after the famine of 1845. The Natuur.huis Wateringhuis is certainly not always open (see link) but it is worth a visit anyway because the "water boss" used to live there who was responsible for the irrigation of the hay meadows with workmen. In addition, there is a small route that shows you a piece of flow meadows and a larger one that is usually organized with a guide. The surroundings of the Wateringhuis are also absolutely beautiful and that also applies to the pieces of nature through which the Fire Adventure route runs, which also departs from the Wateringhuis. Plenty of seating and picnic facilities in an area to explore.
