Heuvelse Heide nature reserve is part of Bosland near Lommel-Kolonie. It is relatively unknown and even on nice days where it is busy elsewhere, it is fairly quiet to very quiet and even deserted. Nearby is an old sand pit, today a pond, but just as interesting is the nature reserve De Watering to the north, which you can combine with this and is only accessible to a limited extent due to its high natural value. You can walk all the way around the Heuvelse Heide itself, always stepping between heath and forest on sandy roads. There is also a sandy path that runs diagonally through the moorland. The heath area was once much larger here. However, a large part was transformed into pine forest and the impact of the sand extraction pit was also great, so that now only a smaller, but for walkers who have a large enough variation, a piece of lesser-known heathland remains. The construction of the Bocholt-Herentals Canal also had an impact on the old heathland and the remaining heathland is therefore also separated from the Lommel hamlet of Heide-Heuvel, which lies south of the canal. The Heuvelse Heide is the name of a former larger heathland area in Lommel. The heath was largely transformed into pine forest. Part of it was used as a sand extraction pit, leaving a pond in the area. A remnant of old heathland remains. This relatively small, heather-covered plain is one of the four remaining heathland areas in Lommel, which are managed as a nature reserve by Natuurpunt to preserve the heathland as it used to be. The area is located north of the Bocholt-Herentals Canal and is therefore separated from Heide-Heuvel to which it originally belonged. Heide-Heuvel can still be reached via a bridge.
