The Schans Halve Maan is one of the oldest redoubts around Antwerp and was built together with the Defensive Dike. Unlike the Defensive Dike itself, the redoubt is not accessible.

The Schans Halve Maan was built in 1870, together with the Defensive Dike. The redoubt is located approximately in the middle. In 1953, the redoubt was badly damaged by the flood and the inside was dug up to fill sandbags. Victims of the flood were allowed to temporarily build shelter on the freed-up land. There are now four private homes on the site.
