    About the House

The Rudolf Schäfer House is located at Große Straße 15 (pedestrian zone) in Rotenburg.

This listed half-timbered house, dating from the 17th century (built in 1675), is one of the last remaining small-town burgher houses typical of Rotenburg.

For centuries, its inhabitants practiced their crafts or engaged in trade, often also farming.

In 1911, Rudolf Schäfer acquired the house from the master tailor Johann Gerken.

He had large windows installed in the upper rooms and set up his workshop there. He lived there with his family from 1912 until his death in 1961.
