In some places in the Tiergarten there are still remnants of the Germania planning from the Third Reich. When Hitler came to power, he wanted to turn the capital Berlin into the world capital Germania. Its architect Albert Speer planned gigantic buildings around the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate. Exactly at this point, today's Straße des 17. Juni should intersect with the planned north-south axis as the so-called east-west axis. Only the curbs of the crossing were realized. After the Nazi reign of terror, Berlin lay in ruins.
