The architect Adrianus Bleijs (1842–1912) designed the church based on a combination of several historicist styles, especially neo-baroque and neo-renaissance.
It was built between 1884 and 1887 and finally consecrated on February 7, 1887. In 1999, the interior of the sacred building was extensively restored. In 2012, it was elevated to a minor basilica.

Hiking

The organ was built by the organ builder Wilhelm Sauer (Frankfurt/Oder) and was inaugurated in 1889. The instrument was extensively restored in the 1990s. It has 40 registers on three manuals and a pedal. The first and second manuals and the pedal are equipped with Barker machines.
