    The royal castle was built shortly after 1317. It consisted of a triangular courtyard with a mighty tower and palace. An important period in the history of the castle begins in 1548, when King Ferdinand I presented it to Captain Juraj Serédy from Košice. The castle was expanded by two extensive courtyards with modern defensive elements. Their last owners were the Rákóczis. In 1684 the castle was conquered and demolished by imperial armies.

      The castle is freely accessible. However, donations are requested because extensive renovation measures and sometimes even restorations are being carried out.
