This picturesque neo-Gothic building dates from the early 19th century. In 1990 it was badly damaged in a storm. It also lost the thatched roofing that gave it its name.

The Wicker House is an example of a folly - a small decorative structure typical of English landscape gardens. Shortly after 1800, the current domain of the Botanic Garden was redesigned in that style.

The thatched cottage was built in the early 19th century, along with the English Bridge and the Belvedere Pavilion. It was commissioned by Count Roose de Baisy, the then-owner, who was re-landscaped the estate at the time.

In the second half of the 20th century, the building was used to overwinter swans kept on the estate. During a heavy storm on January 25, 1990, a tree fell on the building, destroying both the roof and part of the walls. Although it has not been restored to this day, it remains a striking testament to the landscape design of the time and the associated romantic philosophy.
