The Polish Catholic community (at that time the church was still called the Polish National Catholic Church) in Swieciechow Duże was founded in 1928. At the time, Rev. Lorentz, then a Roman Catholic priest who was inspired by the teachings of the National Church, delivered a sermon on an April Sunday criticizing the heirs for forcing their subjects to attend church every Sunday go while they themselves did not go.

A few days later, the Roman Catholic dean and several priests arrived at the congregation in Swieciechowa to pick up Father Lorentz and fill the congregation with a new pastor. The parishioners fought back against the church dignitaries. Various secular and church delegations arrived in Świeciechów, and the missionaries began to reprimand the rebellious parishioners, especially their pastor, in their sermons. In order to prevent the idea of a national church from spreading in Świeciechów, a periodical entitled Rycerz Niepokalanej (Knights of the Immaculate) was sent to every nationalist, in which not only the priests, but also the faithful who had left Rome were slandered in the worst way. The village chiefs, who were obliged to distribute the magazine to the recipients, burned it.

Although the nationalists were in an absolute majority, they had to bow to the law. Father Lorentz left the vicarage and moved to a trailer. At the same time, on June 24, 1928, the day of St. John the Baptist, an altar was erected on Jan Sobolewski Square to celebrate mass and other services there. This was the beginning of the congregation of the Polish National Catholic Church. It was decided to convert the fire station into a place of worship and services began. This did not last long, for another blow to the nationalists soon followed. The firemen's union demanded the return of the fire station. It was then decided to build a new fire station and within two weeks the work was completed.

On May 19, 2010, Świeciechów was flooded by the Vistula River, which broke through the earthen embankments. The parish of St. John the Baptist in Świeciechów was particularly hard hit, as half of the church was flooded and the parish buildings were almost completely destroyed. On the same day, Bishop Prof. Wiktor Wysoczański called on the faithful of the Church to collect money for all those affected (Translated from Wikipedia).
