Heinrich Mertens († 1933) was a wandering bird and nature lover, after a hiking trail in Hülser break is named and in honor of a school in Krefeld in 1957 the name "Heinrich Mertens School" received.

Hiking

Heinrich Mertens was a teacher and a sponsor of youth hiking, he also wanted to inspire young people who had left school to love nature. In 1928 he was a co-founder of the Linker Niederrhein Association (now the Niederrhein Association).
