Historical island:In 2008 the “Schipperhus” was added. It stood approximately at this point and is a rarity on the North Sea coast. We can only provide evidence of such a small Schipperhus for St. Peter.
The beach corpses were kept in this house, described in detail by the pastor in his death register in order to find out where the body came from and who this man was. Often it was a sailor from the neighborhood.
The body was then buried in Süderhöft in what was then the cemetery or in the cemetery in Ording. Today, unknown corpses are immediately taken to the anatomy department in Kiel.
The beach bailiff was responsible for retrieving the beach corpses. This was an unpleasant task. But every "Hitzlöper" or Strandlöper was obliged to moor a corpse that was found, i.e. to drag it to a dry place.
