In the legendary Katharinenheerd, a relief on the church of St. Katharina commemorates the legend of the brave Martje Flohrs. When drunken Danish soldiers rioted in a local farm in 1700, they are said to have forced the then 10-year-old innkeeper's daughter to raise a toast. “Et gah uns wol up unse olen dage!” the child is said to have said with a deadly serious face. This motto and the girl's name are still alive today in all kinds of contexts on the Eiderstedt peninsula.
