Frank Cooper was a successful businessman in 19th-century America, but did you know his real name was Folkert Harmens Kuipers (1843-1904)? He came from Akkrum. In 1900 he built a home for poor old people in his birthplace of Coopersburg. When Kuipers died, a mausoleum was built for him and his wife in the garden of the house. The mausoleum was designed by the sculptor Johann Hinrich Schröder. The buildings are decorated with beautiful sculptures; for example, Frank Cooper and his wife Netty de Graaff are also depicted in the stone of the mausoleum.
