The Puits-Marie is a mining museum located in Blegny, Belgium. It is one of the oldest mining buildings in Belgium, built in 1849. The Puits-Marie was once 234 meters deep and was the main shaft until 1887, after which it was used as a ventilation shaft until 1983. The building is now filled in and houses an exhibition dedicated to eight centuries of coal mining. Here you can see the ventilators, the showers, the lamp shop and the history of miners lamps, the compressor rooms, the electrical station, the infirmary, the administration office, etc. The visit is free for families and guided for groups. If you prefer not to go down into the mine, you can watch the video “A stone that burns” (20 minutes) before the visit. The museum was set up in collaboration with the Liège University Science and Technology History Centre. The remarkable collections come from various sources, including private donations.

Puits-Marie is one of two pits of the Blegny mine, a former coal mine in the province of Liège in Belgium. During the Second World War, the tower of Puits n°1 was destroyed and extraction continued via Puits-Marie, although the pace slowed considerably. From 1942 to 1948, the tower of Puits n°1 and the triage lavoir were rebuilt and production continued to grow. Today you will find the permanent exhibition here.

Make the detour, go past the "carreau de la mine" and the playground, it's worth it, it's superbly restored, thank you to the municipality of Blegny!
