Monaco Town Hall

The Town Hall of Monaco also known as the Mayor of Monaco is a central administrative and cultural centre of the principality, located in the heart of Monaco-Ville. The building overlooks the charming streets of the old town and embodies the historical and civic heritage of the principality, while serving as a vital centre for administration and community life.

Monaco-Ville is historically a fortified old city, parts of the fortifications are still visible today. Until 1917, Monaco-Ville was a separate municipality within the principality and is now also referred to as the old town or by the locals as le Rocher. It lies on a rocky peninsula that rises 60 meters from the Mediterranean Sea between Monaco's two ports, Port Hercule (Municipality of La Condamine) in the north and Port de Fontvieille (Municipality of Fontvieille) in the southwest.

Monaco-Ville is home to, among other things, the Prince's Palace of the Grimaldis. The district is therefore referred to by many sources as the capital of the principality. However, the separation between city and state is purely theoretical. Every day the changing of the guard takes place in front of the palace at 11:55 a.m.

There is also the world-famous Oceanographic Museum, once run by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, as well as the Notre-Dame-Immaculée Cathedral.
