LOURDES GROTTOThis grotto was built in 1958 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes.
Philipp Mehler, a Gambach native, vowed to establish a place of worship in his hometown after a miraculous rescue during World War I.
This grotto was built in the former quarry in the vineyards of Gambach. Mehler brought the statue of the Virgin Mary with him after a pilgrimage from Lourdes.

In the place of the Marian apparitions, a Madonna figure adorns the grotto, the original of which Joseph-Hugues Fabisch created for Massabielle in 1864 according to Bernadette's instructions.
