The shell limestone slopes rise steeply north of Karlstadt and force the Main to change direction slightly to the west before the district of Gambach. The slope of the Grainberg is thus oriented towards the south. Here, on the steep slopes, the wine thrives particularly well, even if cultivation is correspondingly difficult. The Grainberg is now part of the Grainberg-Kalbenstein-Saupurzel nature reserve (flora-fauna-habitat protection zone).
