The 'Schwatka Lake' is a reservoir that was created in 1958 by the damming of the 'Yukon River' south of Whitehorse. The water in the reservoir is used to generate electricity. The rapids of the 'White Horse Rapids' that gave the city its name disappeared with the formation of the reservoir.
