This mill, an "upper porter of the mountain type", was built in Stene in 1853, and was popularly known as "Plaatsemolen". This grain and oil mill was decommissioned in 1927, when a sail was blown away by a storm. The City of Ostend bought the mill hull in 1975 and subsidized its repair. Today the mill has been taken into concession by the local history circle "'t Schorre", which uses the building as a club and exhibition hall.
