The origins of the Forest Chapel are closely linked to the turbulent history of the First World War. When the parish church of Sesto was severely damaged in 1917, the then pastor and some farmers decided to build a new, simple chapel in the forest. In just two weeks, with great effort and the simplest of means, they erected a small wooden church. The necessary building materials came from a hay barn that had previously collapsed under the weight of snow.In 1917 and 1918, every service was held there. The chapel gained particular importance during the Fascist era: It became a hidden place where masses could continue to be secretly celebrated in German – at a time when German was forbidden in churches.

The forest chapel is located above Sexten deep in the forest. A very enchanted and romantic place.

A small chapel with a long history. The calm that reigns here in the place is almost a little eerie. Except for a woodpecker who was busy on the trees, we were there all alone. You can really relax there.
