In 1913, an octagonal dome with a thatched roof stood on the site of the pavilion. At that time it was used by the inhabitants of Huize Rijs, freules Johanna Constantia Jacoba van Swinderen (1871-1936) and Quirina Jacoba Johanna van Swinderen (1876-1958). From their castle, the freules walked over the Freuleleantsje to the Mirnser Klif to enjoy a cup of tea and the view over the Zuiderzee. They were trendsetters in the Frisian bathing culture, given the many families with young children and water sports enthusiasts who now reside there.
Use natural materials
The Witteveen family, owners of the pavilion for decades, designed the new dome in consultation with It Fryske Gea. The design therefore fits well with the cultural history and nature of the area. The reed for the roof comes from the Mokkebank, a reed bank a few kilometers away.
The Mirnser Klif and the Rysterbosk have an ancient history and have been owned by It Fryske Gea for over 80 years. It is still the perfect place to enjoy the view over the IJsselmeer all year round.
