Beautiful historic lock on the Wallgraben (Vallgraven), the old moat encircling Gothenburg’s fortified city. Fattighusslussen means “Poorhouse Lock”, referring to the nearby poorhouse that was originally built in 1726.
It's a wonderful place to wander and discover some of Gothenburg's historic sites.

The old town area of Gothenburg is completely surrounded by water. From Kungsportplatsen, the flat, open Paddan boats set out on tours of the moat, Stora Hamn Canal, Göta älv and Rosenlund Canal.
