The Milan Cathedral (Lombard Dom de Milan, Italian Duomo di Milano (actually Basilica cathedrale metropolitana di Santa Maria Nascente)) is a Roman Catholic church in Milan under the patronage of the Nativity of Mary. It is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Milan. In terms of area, it is one of the largest churches in the world. Begun in Gothic forms in 1386, the cathedral was not yet completed when it was consecrated in 1572 and only got its current facade from the Napoleonic era.
